There are a few key reasons as to why the GE Logiq e has remained as a popular ultrasound machine, including its price, its ability to perform, and its wide range of capabilities. In fact, the Logiq e has always been an affordable solution for a quality, feature-laden portable ultrasound machine.
The GE Logiq E that is updated to BT12 means that the system was updated with new software that was \"Breakthrough\" in 2012. The BT12 system is far more advanced than the previous systems and provides more cutting edge imaging technology. Compatible with an ultrasound cart, the GE Logiq E can be utilized both as a stationary system, or in portable scenarios.
Great question! Portable ultrasound machines tend to be easier to move from office to office. They are also almost always cheaper than the stationary ultrasounds, but offer the same, or similar advanced ultrasound image enhancing technology. The ability to employ a laptop-sized ultrasound either stand alone, or attached to a rolling cart, adds an additional layer of adaptability to an already versatile ultrasound machine.
GE portable ultrasound machines require special probes in general - probes who's name end in \"rs\" like the GE E8C-RS for example. Although many probes / transducers that are engineered for portable ultrasound machines are compatible with a variety of the GE portable machines, the probes that are compatible with the Logiq e are; GE 8L-RS Linear Array Probe, GE 9L-RS Linear Array Probe, GE 12L-RS Linear Array probe, GE 3S-RS Sector Array Probe, GE 6S-RS Sector Array Probe, GE 4C-RS Curved Array Probe, GE E8C-RS Endocavitary Probe, GE P2D-RS Pencil Probe
BT in ultrasound refers to the ultrasound machine's software. BT stands for breakthrough - as in breakthrough technology. The numbers that follow, 12 in this care, refer to the year of the breakthrough. The newer the BT, the better the ultrasound system. It is always important to inquire before purchasing an ultrasound machine what year software the machine is.
Ultrasound is highly operator and machinedependent imaging modality. Those delegateswho have bought cheaper machines wanted to upgrade the machine after a fewyears. Quite simply, as you get better at scanning you want to see more. Forexample, the deeper structures around the hip, small nerves or proximalhamstring. So many wished they just bought a better machine and spent moremoney in the first place.
This is a really important question and will affectwhat machine is appropriate for you. Ultrasound is being used by a variety ofclinicians for many different reasons. If you want to use your machine for allmusculoskeletal areas, then you need to aim for a high end machine withexcellent image quality. However, if you will be using ultrasound to answer a morespecific clinical question then a cheaper machine with a poorer image qualitymay suffice. A handheld machine may be adequate to answer the question. Forexample, if you want to look for an effusion in a hip joint, confirm anAchilles rupture or take measurements for a research study
On our SMUG courses we use Logiq-e R7 machines. These machines have excellent image quality and are one of the best portableoptions on the market. Many of our SMUGtutors use these machines in their clinic. Aswell as the image quality, theLogiq-e R7 is easy to use, has useful features such as the Logiq view (seebelow left) and easy side to side comparison (image below right). The imagequality is also maintained at depths of around 4-6cm with the correct pre-sets.This is a sign of a good machine! SMUG delegates get an exclusive deal on theLoqiq-e R7. 14,999 plus VAT. This is excellent value for money.
The Samsung machine is a little more expensivebut does have excellent image quality. It gives the Logiq-e R7 a run for itsmoney! To choose between these two, youwould have to assess them side by side before making a final decision. Bothexcellent portable machines. You will not be disappointed with either machine.
Irecently tried the Alpinion Ecube i7 which isrelatively new to the UK market.. I was pleasantly surprised! It was easy touse, with good functionality and all the features you require for MSK imaginge.g. needle visualization, a sensitive power Doppler and easy side to sidecomparison. The image quality was very good and comparable to other machines atthis price point. Worth a look.
Although it is an older machine now the Sonosite M-Turbo is still good value for moneyand still produces a good image. They are very portable, very robust and seemto last well. They also have a good battery life, which is a negative of the GErange. I have carried out thousands of guided injections on the SonositeM-Turbo and have always be impressed by its performance despite its age! It canalso be worth contacting the manufacturers as they sometimes have secondhand/ex-demo machines that may be cheaper. Often these can come with a one-yearwarranty.
We recently test drove the SonoScape and taughtwith them in Singapore and we were impressed with their image and functionalityfor their price. They have three machines less than 10,000. The E1 and E2 aretheir low-cost options and the image quality reflects this price point. If youare going to buy one, save for a few more months and get the X3! The X3 isaround the 10K point including VAT and is a step up in terms of image qualityfrom the E1 and E2.
If you are a physiotherapist, sports doctor, GP or osteopath and have not scanned at all before, do not buy a machine until you have attended our Introduction course or gained some experience. This will give you an idea of what a good image looks like and avoid you buying a poor quality machine and wasting your money. If you have not scanned, you do not know what a good or bad machine are!
Methods: A portable ultrasound machine was introduced at an orthopedic clinic in a group practice. An orthopedic surgeon who primarily treated shoulder disorders received 15 hours of training. The impact of physician-performed ultrasonography on subsequent MRI and other outcomes of patients with shoulder disorders from January 2011 through October 2011 was determined using automated administrative and clinical data. Comparisons were made to patients who did not undergo ultrasonography at the experimental practice and 2 orthopedic clinics in the same practice.
Results: During the study, 146 ultrasound examinations were administered. Compared with patients who did not undergo ultrasonography, patients who received ultrasonography had significantly higher comorbidity. However, they were significantly less likely to have MRI (9.7% with ultrasonography vs 14.4% without; p = 0.03) although equally likely to undergo surgery (33.6% with ultrasonography vs 22.1% without, p = 0.77). Mean time to surgery was 89.3 49.3 days for patients with ultrasonography vs 32.9 43.3 days for patients without (p < 0.05). No ultrasonography-examined patients had an incorrect diagnosis at surgery. For patients receiving ultrasonography, an estimated 35 MRIs were avoided, saving a predicted $17,603, a 50% return in less than 1 year on a $34,897 investment for an ultrasound machine and supplies.
