How To Use Utorrent On Windows 7

Utorrent has random issues with Windows 7. Yesterday, i proceeded to pass files at a constant rate, cross country. It worked flawlessly until today. Utorrent randomly became unresponsive and all downloads were stopping at 99.9%. The oddity is that the programs ranged from an actual 30%-100% complete although utorrent reported otherwise. I rebooted and utorrent consistently becomes unresponsive and reports downloads/uploads incorrectly. I uninstalled utorrent, reformatted, reloaded Windows 7, and added Utorrent only. Same random failure. I ran a Quad-Boot with XP/sp3, Ubuntu, Vista Ultimate x64, and Windows 7a and loaded Utorrent on each. All work fine for downloads except windows 7.
This is not a system error as bittorrent, bitlord, azures, and limewire all work and report correctly with the same files. Might be something to look into or maybe theres a setting in utorrent Im unaware of...
I am having a similar issue with win 7+eset smart security+utorrent. i exclude utorrent scanning in eset but after a while utorrent gives "torrent error, access denied".which appplication cuses this error i couldnt get.win 7 or eset.it will be very appreciated any help
Anyone managed to sort this problem yet I have tried reinstalling utorrent, making a new download folder, logging in as administrator and running in compatibility mode for xp. All of these solutions work for a couple of days and then d/l's stop at 99.9% again. Its driving me crazy
about the permissions issue on the .torrent files, i fixed it by taking complete owner ship of the .torrent file under my user name. but i am having other problems like utorrent crashing my system if i have more then 5 downloads running, it says something about IOBuildPartial when it crashes. any help will and is appreciated.
Just to let you guys know that uTorrent does not work in windows 7 64-bit. More correctly, it starts and appears to work, but after a while your computer either restarts, bsod's or freezes. Microsoft really fudged this one up.
After installing other software applications & various windows updates i started to have problems with some of the software applications that i had installed. i then decided to revert my windows back to an earlier time to see if i could overcome the problems i was having and it seemed to work. I then re-installed uTorrent V2.2 but now the application does not show up in my start menu. i then checked my C: drive, program file and again no uTorrent. i then went to uninstall programs through my control panel and uTorrent isn't even listed as being installed. the only way i can get uTorrent to open is by clicking on the original installation file and the uTorrent opens and shows up in my system tray but no where else.
Cheers for the tips to all that replied. i did the required searches and found the folder with the utorrent contents. The folder was hidden and it was saved within C:Drive, Users, My own named folder, AppData (which is a hidden folder), Roaming, uTorrent. I then just deleted that folder and re-booted. I then went back to the uTorrent web site, re-downloaded the app and re-installed. The app now shows up in the places it should where it didn't before. Problem solved.
Who knows why utorrent is NOT installed into c/program files or even askes when you install it as putting utorrent on you SSD drive is the WORST thing you can do with utorrent as it constantly writes to the drive. I've asked before and got a strange answer of 'Then why do skydrive and dropbox do it
You should also use the combination Ctrl+h in order to unhide/hide hidden files. The files that you download on Linux with uTorrent should be located at: /snap/utorrent/common/.wine/drive_c/users//downloads.
I looked for more than a few hours on the internet looking for a solution. I thought the problem was peerblock, who would have thought humble little utorrent could ever give me a blue screen. You are the only one that gave a solution, so thanks a lot! I have a lenovo pc as well, it might be an error on their part. Science knows what I would do without torrenting. Thanks again!
Running uTorrent in Windows 7 can be done either in normal desktop GUI mode (utorrent.exe process type Console) or uTorrent can be run as a Service (utorrent.exe process type Service) on the background and can be accessed only via WebUI interface. Both ways should work fine.
There is one downside in this method. Utorrent will be brought up every time new torrent is added to utorrent by scheduled flexget tasks. This can't be avoided with /HIDE or /MINIMIZED or Boss key methods. If there's a way to avoid this downside, don't hesitate to update this wiki.
One of the most-widely used tool for download torrents on windows is uTorrent, and windows defender always blocks the software as soon as it detects it on your machine. Well, I was searching for a solution after upgrading to Windows 11 Insider Preview, and only today, found the solution.
It's quite simple. You have to disable Virus and Threat Protection service on your machine for time-being until you install uTorrent. You can do so simply in Settings > Privacy & Security > Windows Security > Virus & Threat Protection for windows 11 and Settings > Windows Security > Virus & Threat Protection. Don't forget to turn them back on once you are done installing.
I agree with floyd11, Bittorent shows the same bug. If you chose "open containing folder" it will open an windows explorer (explorer.exe), with 6,460 Kb memory process (aprox. it varies a bit depending of window content) while the windows explorer is open. Once closed the "explorer.exe" process wont close, but it will change memory consumption down aprox. 1 mb.
This registry key should map to the "Launch folder windows in a separate process" setting, what that does is create a explorer.exe process to segregate shell elements (taskbar, desktop) from folder windows. This should result in no more than two explorer.exe processes.
Some people change Windows Explorer's default folder by appending a folder path to a taskbar button's "Target" property. While this does exactly what it's supposed to do it creates this new windows in their own process. I'm not entirely convinced this is your problem because these processes tend to close shortly after the window isbut if that's something you've done it could be contributing.
I too have many explorer exes, after reading your question, I went to utorrent 1.8.5 and used that option " Open Containing Folder" while my taskmanager was ON, on the top of all. And the more I open different files from that option, the more I saw explorer exes, and when I closed them all they were all gone in maybe 10+ seconds.
Dunno if this helps anyone...a few days ago i had a similar problem whereby 4 to 6 instances of explorer.exe would load every boot. I noticed HKCU and HKLM entries in startup from msconfig which i know is not right so i did some sleuthing. Ended up finding a directory "c:\\windows\\explorer" which contained 1 file "svchost.exe". Zone Alarm recognized it as virus but wouldnt remove it. Just kept respawning instantly. Had to boot into safe mode, remove entries from registry, then delete said folder. Entries found in "HKCU\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Run" and also HKLM\\Software\\Wow6432Node\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Run". Also removed all prefetch entries.
Open Firefox and Burp Suite. Configure Firefox to proxy requests through Burp and capture the login request. Replace the encoded "Authentication: Basic" string with "FILE0," right-click it, and choose the "Copy to file" option. The FILE0 string will act as a placeholder for Patator's wordlist. Save the request to the /tmp directory with the "utorrent_request.txt" filename.
To brute-force uTorrent web logins, use the below patator command with the utorrent_request.txt file created in step two. Make sure you substitute any paths below to the right directory, as yours may be different.
So I have a torrent running windows downloading files. Having my machine setup with Ubuntu + Windows dual boot, can I pause the running torrent in Windows, boot into Ubuntu, and resume the torrent there
Currently, μTorrent generates revenue through in-content advertisements (in the free version for windows) and the "pro" version, which is available in 3 bundles (available for both classic & web client for windows).[35]
An admin on the μTorrent forums wrote in 2005, "I don't really know how it's pronounced... ...I usually say 'you torrent' because it looks like a u", while stating they were not sure, they also mentioned the correct pronunciations for "μTorrent" "microtorrent", "mytorrent" (as "my" [myː] is the Swedish pronunciation of the Greek letter μ) and "mutorrent".[51] In Greece, where the software is widelyused, it is called 'me torrent',[citation needed] since the letter μ of the Greek Alphabet is pronounced [mi] in modern Greek.[52]The symbol μ is the lowercase Greek letter mu, which stands for the SI prefix "micro-". It refers to the program's originally small footprint.

It is made to allow peer-to-peer file sharing between its users, it uses the BitTorrent protocol to transfer files from one peer to another. It consists of peers, seeds, and leaches. Peers and seeds are the uploaders while leaches are the downloaders.

A lot of users on the uTorrent forums reported that most versions after the update 3.4.2, give a vague error when trying to download a torrent. The error says that access to disk has been denied and that the torrent can’t be downloaded. The error could occur while a torrent is in progress.
What causes uTorrent to give “access is denied (write to disk)” error
Before we try and find a solution, we first have to determine the cause of this problem. Here are the most frequent causes.

Not to worry, the following methods will allow you to find and fix the cause of this problem.
Method 1: Granting administrative privileges to uTorrent
In order for an application to work properly on windows, it must be granted administrative privileges. The same is true for uTorrent. In most cases, the “access is denied” error is caused because the uTorrent doesn’t have the required privileges. To fix this you could just run it as an administrator, but then you would have to run it as administrator every time you start it. To permanently run it as an administrator, before continuing, make sure you have set up your account as an administrator.

Open the Start menu and search for uTorrent.

Once it appears in the search, right-click on it and open its file location by clicking on Open file location. This will take you to the uTorrent’s shortcut folder.
Right-click on the uTorrent’s shortcut and again click on Open file location.
Now once you are in the root directory of uTorrent, right-click on the uTorrent.exe and click Properties.
Go into the Compatibility tab and check the Run this program as an administrator tick box.

Also, click on the "Run this Program in compatibility mode for" option and select "Service Pack 3" from the dropdown.
Click Apply and then click OK. Now start the client and see if the error is gone or not.

Method 2: Unchecking the read-only property of the download folder
If the first method didn’t work for you, then the error might be caused due to the fact that the folder in which you are downloading your torrent has its Read-only property checked. You will have to create a new folder and un-tick its Read-only property to get rid of this error.

To create a new folder, right-click anywhere and then hover the pointer over the New option and then click Folder.

Once the folder is created rename it to your needs and right-click on it and then open its properties by clicking on Properties.
Under the General tab, untick the Read-only (Only applies to files in the folder).

Now click on Apply and then click on OK. It might take some seconds to apply the changes.
Now try downloading your torrent again and only use this folder as your download folder for uTorrent.

Method 3: To reset the download folder from the torrent settings
Now, this method is similar to the previous one, there is a bug in the uTorrent that doesn’t allow it to recognize the folder in which it has started downloading, the folder is there but still, it gives the write error.

Right-click on the torrent that is displaying the error message: Access is denied (write to disk).
Hover the mouse pointer over Advanced. Now select "Set download location".

Next, you will have to re-select the same folder that was used before or select a new folder. Now click OK.
Now right click on the torrent again and select Start. See if this fixed the error.

Method 4: Redownload Torrent
Sometimes you might need to redownload your torrent from the site you got it from in order to rectify this issue. Torrent files can often contain corrupted or misconfigured data which can lead to this particular issue while trying to download.","publisher":{"@id":"#Publisher","@type":"Organization","name":"Appuals.com","logo":{"@type":"ImageObject","url":"https://appuals.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/apuals_new_logo_B-1.png"},"publishingPrinciples":"https://appuals.com/about/#go-to-editorial-guidelines","sameAs":["https://facebook.com/appuals","https://twitter.com/appuals","https://www.linkedin.com/company/appuals/","https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCR--2QnA0vYBfqsmSI3pQ9g","https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/appuals"]},"author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Kevin Arrows","url":"https://appuals.com/author/admin/","description":"Kevin is a dynamic and self-motivated information technology professional, with a Thorough knowledge of all facets pertaining to network infrastructure design, implementation and administration.
