OS X 10.10 Yosemite is a proven system owing to its unique features which have been a surprise to many users. But when you upgrade the new version of Mac OS, you may find that most of your video files can't be played smoothly. And when you try to convert video format with the old video converter software, things changed. All that software become out of commission. Instead of returning to the old Mac OS, getting a regularly updated video converter for Yosemite is the best solution.
nick: That was old functionality in iMovie that let you export a video and then play it across your Apple devices. No longer supported. If you exported something to iMovie Theater and don't have a copy of it anywhere else, then be sure to check out -youre-looking-for-imovie-theater-mov893a71a30/mac to get them out of there before deleting.
How do I open a new library in iMovie 7.1.4 (Running on Yosemite 10.10.5)My current library is 31 G.iMovie 7.1.4 will not (under FILE, Import Movies) will no longer let me select anything to import.I figure it is because this application cannot deal with any larger imovielibrary or perhaps my iMac can'tIdeas
Mac OS X Yosemite (10.10.x), released on 16 October 2014 and is available as an upgrade for faculty and staff who are currently running Mavericks (10.9.x). If your machine is running Mavericks (10.9.x) or Mountain Lion (10.8.x) the upgrade will appear automatically in Software Updates under the Apple Menu. If your machine is running Snow Leopard (10.6.x) or Lion (10.7.x), you will need to contact the Technology HelpDesk to discuss upgrade options.
One of the more interesting requests we get from OWC customers is how to revert from OS X 10.10 Yosemite to an earlier version of the system. The reasons for doing this will vary but the two most common are application incompatibilities and/or a dislike for the changes made to the user interface.
How easy or difficult the reversion is depends heavily on whether you have a full Time Machine backup of the original system installation. As an example, if you are reverting from 10.10 to 10.9 (the next most popular version of OS X) and you have a Time Machine backup, the process is relatively simple. The steps can be found here:
Reverting to an earlier version like 10.7 or 10.6 can be more complicated, especially without a Time Machine backup. This article provides a detailed look at a recent attempt to revert from 10.10.3 to 10.6.8, without the benefit of a Snow Leopard Time Machine backup. The results were mixed, but mostly positive.
Apps and Other Data6.) Perform a final Time Machine backup. As long as Time Machine is not configured to omit folders (System Preferences > Time Machine > Options), everything installed with 10.10 including the media and email data prepared in Steps 1-5 should be backed up during this process.
I figured it out, the disk I was using from work was a retail maybe upgrade disc, tried my old hackintosh yosemite usb and it worked fine in my imac, just needed to use a copy of the original restore disc and I am mid install now.
Unless you need new versions of an application or want security updates, running SL is fine. I used Snow Leopard for years, and keep a bootable disk in case I need to run legacy software. 10.10.5 is fairly stable in my opinion, there still are bugs and IU glitches/annoyances.
The tips on this page apply to that version, which is also what comes with 10.10 (Yosemite). If you have earlier versions of the Mac OS, see other handouts in the Using iMovie category. Also check out:
For minor updates, like OS X 10.10.8 or 10.10.9 updates, Apple releases standalone installers as .dmg files that you can download once and install on multiple machines. The releases are available as incremental updates (containing only changed files) or combo updates (all changed files since the last major release).
Moreover, Apple recently streamlined its photo-management offering across platforms with the all-new Photos application, now available across iPhones, iPads and iPod touches running iOS 8.3, Macs running OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 and through the web interface at iCloud.com. 153554b96e
