The primary goal of the PCI Self-Assessment Questionnaire is to assist organizations to understand where they may be at risk of non-compliance with the PCI Security Standards. It is a very important document that should be assessed by every organization. For more information, please see the appendix.
The PCI DSS v3.2 is the most recent version of the PCI Data Security Standard. It was released September 23, 2011. The PCI DSS v3.2 is a revision of the PCI DSS, designed to clarify and strengthen compliance. This revised document uses a common language and format to describe the various requirements, and each revision makes improvements in this common language. The PCI DSS v3.2 incorporates updates to the previous version that include, but are not limited to, some changes in the scope, new requirements, and updates to the language.
This document establishes the baseline for the PCI DSS, and all assessments are measured against this baseline. The baseline is not a published standard, it is the common language that the PCI Security Standards Council uses to express the requirements of the PCI DSS. This document contains the baseline requirements for the PCI DSS, but it is not intended to be all-encompassing. There are many other aspects of the PCI DSS that are not included in this document. For example, this document covers only the areas that are required of any compliant organization. If an organization does not have systems or processes in place to meet the requirements of the PCI DSS, it is recommended that they assess themselves to determine where they fall short. This is a good starting point, and does not cover all areas of PCI DSS compliance.
Finally, it is important to take note that domain names and IP addresses, by themselves, are not security. It is possible to compromise a site by only knowing the domain name or IP address of a site.
The home site has a link to shareware applications that use the same components as the Internet Security Suite and may be of interest to the reader. One of the most interesting applications is a word processor called Crysol which allows the end user to try different fonts in any document, see text wrap, and experiment with different styles and effects. 827ec27edc
